General Manager

Our client is a company active in the sector of personalized promotional items, in a B2B environment. Their activities comprise both a promotional items agency, developing concepts and design of promotional items, as well as their purchase and in-house capabilities to personalize those items, mostly by printing them, but also other techniques are being applied.  Clients are very diverse and range from large enterprises to first division football clubs.  They are owned by a Private Equity fund, which has a buy-and-build strategy for this sector. They are therefore looking for a commercially astute and growth-driven General Manager with a keen interest in M&A and successful and efficient integration of those acquisitions afterwards.  

Function description

• You are the 'face' of the company both to its own employees and to the outside world: customers, suppliers and shareholders

• You will manage a team of approx. 30 co-workers, consisting of both blue and white collars 

• You are responsible for business development and implementation of both the long- and short-term strategy that should mainly focus on growth.  Of course, you also manage the company operationally on a daily basis

• You actively participate in business development converting prospects into clients and follow up key accounts, with a focus on closing longer-term framework agreements with the bigger clients

• You are both commercially and operationally active and steer the development of the company in both areas.  You bear the final responsibility in the customer process, ranging from quotation to handling any complaints

• You are actively involved, with the support of the private equity partner, in buy-and-build activities which involves screening targets, participating in qcquisition conversations and finally their integration when being acquired 

• You manage the activity of the company as a whole and make the important decisions that affect the organization

• You manage the company's resources and direct where they are deployed 

• You negotiate or approve the contracts for the company  


Job requirements

• Master's Degree or equal by experience.  Ideally, with a commercial or marketing specialization  

• 5+ years' experience as a CEO, General Manager or Business Unit Manager in a commercial environment, with P&L responsibility 

• Experience in the field of advertising and/or promotional activities is a plus.

• Proven commercial drive, and preferably with both B2B and B2C customers.

• Track record with P&L responsibility

• Excellent communication skills, able to communicate at all levels of the organization

• Strong people management skills, able to coach and motivate teams to a higher level while giving them sufficient autonomy.

• Time management and decision making skills

• Prioritization and delegation skills

• Fluent in Dutch and French, both oral and written. Professional knowledge of English is a plus.



A long term Management assignment for an independent manager who will invoice through his or her management company. 

Remuneration will be based on a fixed part (likely to be around 70%) and a variable part, based upon achieved results, both in revenue and profit.  There is also the option of acquiring shares in the company.

You will be reporting to the Board of the Private Equity fund this company is owned by.
