Senior Maintenance Manager

Our client is a Belgian leader in food retail. To support their growth, they are looking for a Technical Maintenance Manager to reinforce their team working on the automation and maintenance of their Supply Chain, which involves 9 different DC’s at the moment. You will be responsible for a number of dedicated DC’s, located in the provinces of Antwerp and Walloon Brabant.

Function description
  • As a strong people manager, you will directly lead a team of approximately 10 co-workers, consisting of team leaders and reliability / maintenance engineers based in the different DC's. The team leaders manage around 40 skilled technicians in total, which are working shifts
  • You are responsible for the technical management of the warehousing systems and order picking lines and their automation within the different DC's which are an essential part of the Supply Chain. You are not responsible for the design and realization, but the input from support is indispensable for a good design of new installations
  • As a support service, you and your colleagues ensure the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting so as to optimize and increase the efficiency of the installations at the DC’s
  • You are good at building, developing, and maintaining close collaboration not only with the heads of supply chain operations but also with the engineering department
  • You oversee maintenance strategy and management activities at your dedicated DC’s
  • You communicate the long-term strategy of the technical department within your sites
  • You are responsible for the development of your local teams and ensure that they acquire the necessary knowledge to achieve their objectives
  • You review the technical infrastructure and build relationships with the internal partners to decide together which options to develop
  • Your seek to optimize the technical service as a whole at your sites. Other technical systems are needed to operate smoothly at those sites, such as HVAC and water treatment, which may influence overall efficiency and performance
  • You monitor maintenance status with KPI and ensure timely delivery
  • You determine equipment, materials and manpower required to run and maintain the supply chain installations as efficiently as possible
Job requirements
  • Engineer in a technical specialty, with min. 10 years of experience in a managerial position 

  • Proven experience in Maintenance (curative, preventive, predictive) & technical asset management, installations etc, in Supply Chain

  • Interest in and experience with supply chain digitalization projects (Operational Technology) is a plus

  • Competence in automation with a passion for warehousing, order picking and transportation

  • You are good at organizing, planning and managing projects

  • You preferably have experience working in a matrix environment, as maintenance is a support service in this organization

  • You have a strong technical background and highly interested in innovative solutions

  • You have a strong analytical and critical mind which allows you to easily distinguish the essential from the secondary and able to convince your colleagues with a positive attitude in this company’s consensus driven culture

  • You are a team player, sharing your knowledge with your colleagues

  • You are an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills

  • You are open to change and innovation and have out of the box thinking capabilities

  • You make timely decisions and take initiative

  • You are flexible in terms of working hours, and stress resistant. This is not a 9 to 5 job. As your teams work shifts, it is important to sometimes also be there during the night or on weekends

  • Your are expected to be reachable at any moment, in order to give guidance and advice in case of a real emergency

  • Fluent in Dutch, with a good professional level of French


Interim management assignment for a period of at least 12 months, preferably with the possibility to switch to a permanent contract on the longer term

The working atmosphere is informal and open, but professionally demanding. You have flexibility in planning your own work schedule, and hybrid working is allowed up to 2 days/week, but it is not a right. It has to be in line with the requirements of this role.

Organizational and departmental definition

You will be part of a young and dynamic team, which currently consists of 4 managers reporting to the Technical Director.  You are expected to back-up your peers at certain moments, such as holiday periods or other kinds of absence.  This will mean travelling to other provinces such as Flemish Brabant and Hainaut.
