Product Manager Meat Products

Our client is a leader in the food sector and part of a large Belgian Group. To support their further development, the company is looking for a Product Manager to pilot the sales and product development of their meat and alternative protein products, which is a key role in the organization.

As a strong and respectful people manager, you lead a team of approx. 10 people, consisting of account managers, product developers and admin support for the department.   

Function description
  • You and your team are responsible for the development of all meat (bovine, pork, poultry) products, both pre-cut and pre-packaged raw meat products, prepared (traiteur) products and charcuterie.  In view of changing market trends and consumer expectations and needs, your team also takes care of the development of alternative protein products (meat replacers or alternatives), as well as the lifecycle management of existing products
  • You and your team maintain frequent contacts with key clients via the account/assortment manager in order to pick up consumer demands and requirements, both in terms of products but also required packaging
  • You and your team work in close relationship with the different production sites in order to ensure that the proposed product development fits the quality, efficiency and effectiveness requirements and objectives of those sites
  • You give the team direction and leadership, on a day-to-day operational and tactical level (objectives with a 12-18 months horizon), developing their expertise and stimulating entrepreneurship  
  • You monitor customer satisfaction and take action whenever necessary
  • You develop a longer term strategic plan for the department, across the different product lines, taking into account key stakeholder requirements and market developments
Job requirements
  • You have previous experience in managing product management teams of a similar size
  • You have an educational background related to nutrition (engineering, nutrition and dietetics, biochemistry)
  • You have experience in food product development and meat technology, preferably including packaging
  • You are a passionate 'foodie' 
  • You combine commercial flair (affinity with customers and sales) with a strong production background
  • Preferably you have at 5 years of experience in all of the topics mentioned above
  • You are bi-lingual FR/NL with a sound knowledge of ENG

6 months full time Interim Management assignment, to replace the current manager who will be leaving the company shortly, while the permanent candidate is being recruited.  A longer term assignment after the IM period is possible, where you continue to invoice via your management company, provided an agreement can be made with the client regarding the longer term compensation.

You report to the division manager and are part of the management team.
