Supply Chain Engineer @D.B.P. Plastics

The specialty of DBP Plastic Solutions nv is the packaging of food, both in stores and in people's homes. They provide beautifully designed, safe and reliable products whereby innovation is a key focus.

DBP is a Belgian family business, located in Wilrijk (Antwerp), specialized since 1935 in the development, production and commercialization of a wide range of high quality plastic products with the aim of preserving, packaging and keeping food fresh.

Besides branded products they also offer custom made products such as private label for major retailers, FMCG food packaging and promotional items.

The product range has been developed in a balanced and careful manner over the years. It includes bread boxes, cookie boxes, fruit boxes, fresh food boxes, freezer boxes, kitchen equipment, and much more.

In view of the wide range of products produced, combined with a certain seasonality, DBP is looking to optimalize our supply chain and gain signifcant efficiencies. Therefore, we are looking for a SUPPLY CHAIN ENGINEER that will lead an important improvement project. Currently DBP experiences that within the whole supply chain there is still too much manual (i.e. paper) work, as well as inadequate use of the capabilities of the ERP, which leaves too much room for mistakes in their overall supply chain processes. Finally this leads to incorrect stock levels of both finished products and raw materials. It is deemed that specific investments might be needed in order to solve those issues, such as bar code scanning.

The Supply Chain Engineer will analyze the current operational performance in close collaboration will all actors involved (procurement, production, warehousing) and will propose and implement both short and medium term measures that will increase the overall efficiency.

Function description

• Analyze data from production, stocking, shipping and delivering processes to define bottlenecks and other detected issues that effect the overall equipment efficiency (OEE)

• Identify and implement ‘quick wins’

• Evaluate and propose cost-effective solutions, process improvements and/or investments to eliminate those bottlenecks and issues

• Determine the expected cost reduction/efficiency gains that will result from the proposed actions

• Implement the agreed solutions in close collaboration with all departments involved

• Train and guide employees in the application of the implemented solutions

• Evaluate current KPI’s and propose, where needed, alternative ones

Job requirements

• Master Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management or equivalent (by experience)

• Minimum 10 years of experience as Supply Chain Manager in an industrial manufacturing environment

• Strong project management capability

• Experience with operational improvement techniques, such as Lean Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen

• Experience with the implementation and optimization of ERP programs. The current ERP is Navision, but it is the intention that within 12-18 months SAP will be implemented. This should be taken into account when proposing short term efficiency improvements. Knowledge of both ERP is a major plus.

• Ability to review and assess all aspects of supply chain, from product development to the shipment of finished items.

• Integrity, honesty, good communication skills

• Experienced people and change manager who can motivate and coach a team to adopt new solutions and/or new ways of working

• You speak Dutch fluently, French and English are a plus

• Practical and effective manager who can make the most profitable decisions

• Excellent organizational skills

• Good negotiation skills

The assignment is foreseen for a period of 3-6 months and could be potentially be part-time (50%) for a longer period, as it is expected that it will require certain investments which will have a lead time before being able to be implemented.
