Business Unit Manager

Unique opportunity for a Business Unit Manager to lead and further build a small, but established software company (a mix of SaaS and server based software), with a dominant position in a niche of the health care market in Belgium.

The company is profitable and has recently been acquired by a young and dynamic Belgian Private Equity player. One of their star products has been spinned off into a separate company. Now the main challenge is to further strengthen the existing business and increase its profitability. This is a nice opportunity for a hands-on, proactive, sales focused and truly entrepreneurial leader. The current team exists of 5 people.

The former general manager of the company is now advising and coaching the spin-off and we are looking for his successor. The former general manager will however be available to coach the new business unit manager at the start of the assignment.

  • Assuming full responsibility for the strategic as well as tactical commercial initiatives of the business
  • Quickly define and execute an adapted pricing scheme for the services offered
  • Lead the yearly contract negotiations with clients
  • Build and implement a business plan that delivers the next phase of growth for the company
  • Take ownership of the P&L, resources, budgets and headcount
  • Work closely with the former General Manager to ensure rapid knowledge transfer and ensure a seamless transfer of responsibility and leadership
  • Constantly assess opportunities for improved efficiencies and new business opportunities

  • A hands-on entrepreneurial manager with proven track record in (software) services companies, as solid understanding of the offer and product features are key in being able to sell it to customers in this niche sector
  • A strong commercial leader who has driven sales and profit growth in an entrepreneurial environment by developing both existing clients and attracting new ones
  • Previous P&L responsibility
  • Good communicator able to listen, coach and rally a small team around a company’s vision and mission
  • Fluent in Dutch, good knowledge of French is a plus

A challenging parttime (50%) but long term assignment for an independent manager who will invoice through his or her management company. Remuneration will be a fixed daily rate to be agreed, supplemented with a yearly bonus based on the achieved sales and margin objectives. As the company is owned by PE, there is a possibility of acquiring shares as part of the total package.

The Business Unit Manager will be reporting to the general manager who retains overall accountability for both companies.

The new Business Unit Manager will assume overall commercial and P&L responsibility for the business unit. The major objective will be to develop the right pricing model for this company. The software it developed provides significant cost savings for its clients, but the current pricing does not sufficiently reflect this. Also the possibilities of client base expansion and/or further acquisitions are real.
