For one of our industrial clients based in Occidental Flanders, active as a well-known supplier to the automotive industry (OEM and after market) and a leader in its field, with clients in over 90 countries, we are looking for an experienced Operations Director who is able to define and implement the technology needed to be ready for the future. You therefore have a profound experience in leading manufacturing and supply chain in larger organizations. The domains of HSE, Quality, Production, Engineering and Supply Chain hold no secrets for you.

As a strong and respectful people manager you have a sound experience in guiding the above mentioned departments. A close collaboration with other department heads and stakeholders is of course essential.

You have an experience in Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma .. and are used to reporting on KPIs.

We need a strategic mindset but equally a hands-on approach, as this is a family owned business. You love to be close to the action and collaborate closely with the teams.

• Carry end responsibility for all operational activities (manufacturing and supply chain) and corresponding budgets

• Define the future Operations Strategy and related investments. You will also be responsible for its implementation it in order to reach the company’s strategic targets. The company is in need of technological innovation and will need to invest in a substantial way in the coming 3-5 years. These strategic technological choices will be key for the future growth and continued profitability of the company;

• Coordinate between all operations units and key stakeholders to guarantee stability, profitability, quality and safety processes

• Responsible for achieving safety, quality, logistics, supply chain and productivity objectives

• Implement process improvements via transformation or change projects

• You will be in charge both of the warehousing activities in Belgium (50 FTE) and the production site in Romania (300 FTE). The split in terms of travel will be 60/40 (Belgium/Romania)

• Master Degree in any discipline

• 10 years minimum of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably with experience in the automotive industry

• 10 years minimum of experience as Operations Manager, Site Manager, Plant Manager, …

• International experience: you have successfully managed multiple sites in different (European) countries, preferably also in Eastern Europe

• You are willing to travel up to 40% of your time (up to 50% in peak periods), as the main production site is in the north of Romania

• Experienced people manager who can motivate and coach a team to peak performance

• Strong interpersonal skills combined with strong analytical skills

• Change management experience

• Sound knowledge of either of these: Lean principles, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, Six Sigma, TQM, …

• You speak English fluently as well as either Dutch or French

This is a long term assignment for an experienced independent manager, who will invoice through a management company.

• You will be part of the management team and report directly to the CEO
