Operations Director

Our client is part of a larger, strongly growing Belgian group active in the construction sector, mainly interior finishing. Current turnover of the group is around 70M€, with the aim to grow to 150M€ by 2030, through internal growth but also acquisition. Only recently they acquired two new companies in France, active in the same sector.

Our client currently represents 50% of their turnover and is a highly specialized leading developer and manufacturer of technical interior joinery, complemented by glazed fire-rated doors, windows and walls, and building security solutions. They make a difference not only in development and production, but also with their client focused solution oriented approach.  

They are now looking for an Operations Director ad interim 

  • Ensure that all installations are carried out according to the agreed timing, cost and quality
  • Manage the team of project managers on a daily basis by providing support for the Project Managers and solving organizational and technical problems
  • Coordinate and optimize the collaboration between the PM’s and the installation team reporting to the Operations Manager
  • Organize the overall planning of the projects to be executed
  • Align and continuously improve the existing processes so that both sites work in an identical way. In view of the fact that the acquisition of our client’s company by the Group is fairly recent, there are still challenges in this area
  • Instill a solutions-oriented spirit in the whole team, both direct and indirect reports
  • Act as the point of contact for suppliers, also handling purchasing claims
  • Monitor the agreed project budgets and take corrective actions when necessary, in order to realize the projects within the budget
  • Propose conceptual and strategic transformation initiatives for the company as a whole. In view of recent acquisitions in France, for instance, the Operations Director is expected to significantly contribute to their efficient and effective integration in the Group
  • You have a technical background preferably with 5-10 years of experience in construction or other business which involve a number of specific installation projects to be completed simultaneously within strict deadlines
  • You have a proven track record in successfully managing project teams
  • You are a natural leader with both focus on results and people
  • You can easily adhere to the company’s values which are solution orientation, team spirit, commitment and passion, care for all stakeholders involved
  • You speak Dutch fluently and have professional working knowledge of French
  • You are results oriented and can easily cope with the continuous pressure of reaching the agreed deadline
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with joinery and/or fire-resistant assemblies is a plus
  • You are a conceptual and strategic thinker, but at the same time hands-on with eye for the project details
  • You communicate and connect easily with all people involved in your projects
  • You have a flexible, positive and solution-oriented attitude and mindset and have a high energy level

This is a full-time Interim Management assignment foreseen for a minimum duration of 6 months. As the company is hiring for the permanent role as well, it is possible that this could turn into a long-term assignment, should the Interim Manager be interested and have the right expertise and fit with our client. The company is fine with the Operations Director continuing to invoice through a management company.

The Interim Operations Director will be fully responsible for the successful execution of all their installation projects, from just after sale to full customer delivery. He will directly manage a team of 15 project managers and their assistants, located on 2 sites (Kempen and Ghent area) as well as the internal installation crew with a mix of about 100 internal and external placers. For the installation team, he can count on the Operations Manager reporting to him.

The Operations Director and his team of Project Managers are the SPOC for the clients and ensure high quality and timely delivery at the agreed price and cost.

He will report to the Managing Director and is part of the management team.
